Friends of the Waterfront holds first annual River Walk
Combine healthy living with support for Waterfront Park
Louisville’s Waterfront Park has been lauded as one of the best examples of environmental redevelopment in the nation. Known as the “emerald heart of this city by the river,” Waterfront Park is a place where employees of downtown businesses can take a moment out of a busy work day to rest and recharge. The Friends of the Waterfront (FOTW) invites everyone to support this jewel by the river and take a walk in the park for its first annual RiverWalk. The 2010 FOTW RiverWalk will be held June 11, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Waterfront Park.
The FOTW RiverWalk will follow the Mayor’s Mile, a 1-mile loop in Waterfront Park. Entry fee for the walk is $30 per person and includes a commemorative T-shirt and healthy lunch for all participants who submit their $30 entry fee by May 17, 2010. Downtown companies are being encouraged to gather as many employees as possible and sponsor their entry fees. Individuals are also welcome to participate and may collect donations to support the fee.
“The FOTW RiverWalk is a great opportunity for companies and their employees to advocate a healthy lifestyle while supporting a great cause,” said Nicole Walton, president of Friends of the Waterfront. “The ultimate goal is to ensure the community’s use and appreciation of the river, and the walk will help in our fund-raising efforts so that free programs and events continue at Waterfront Park.”
Entry fees must be collected and turned in by May 17, 2010. Only cash and checks will be accepted. Send to Friends of the Waterfront, 129 E. River Road, Louisville, KY, 40202, attention Kelley Lewis.
If you cannot take part in the walk, credit card donations to support Friends of the Waterfront can be made on its website, www.friendsofthewaterfront.com.
By participating in the FOTW RiverWalk, walkers are not only doing something healthy for themselves, but are supporting the programs, events, education, fund-raising and marketing efforts of the Friends of the Waterfront; events such as WFPK’s Waterfront Wednesdays, Catfish Louie Kids Zone at the Waterfront Independence Festival, the Clean Team and JCPS Curriculum Guides.
The Friends of the Waterfront was founded in 1991 and is a volunteer organization focused on waterfront advocacy and development. The ultimate goal of the organization is to ensure the community’s use and appreciation of the river.
